How does Quest provide skill rehearsal beyond other bullying prevention programs?
Students practice prosocial skills as they seek to meet goals in virtual
worlds. Unlike live roleplays or class discussions, there are no peer
group or wider social expectations so otherwise hard to reach children
can truly explore the consequences of their social decisions in a safe
and confidential environment. For instance, Quest provides the only
means to realistically reinforce key skills such as safe intervention: Skills
that would otherwise be next to impossible to practice and rehearse in
the real world.
The role plays allow students to explore different paths. Each student
receives individualized attention from his or her own virtual coach. The
virtual coach ensures students receive help where they need it most.
Children who are not typically reached with conventional strategies are
more likely to respond to the individualized roleplay.
